Scope break
Also called extra work, out of scope, T&M extra.
A scope break is the moment the work left the base contract. The extra still has to be captured with the same discipline as the bid — classes, hours, and a rate — or it dies in a meeting.
Why a note in the daily is not enough
“Helped the plumber, 3 hours” does not survive billing. The LEM needs the extra named, the people and iron on that extra, and the rate sheet that applies. SubTrack tracks scope breaks natively so the extra is not buried in the base ticket.
When it becomes a change order
Once the extra is defined and priced, many jobs convert T&M tickets into a change order. The tickets are the backup. If they are sloppy, the CO is sloppy.

Is a scope break the same as a change order?

Who decides it is extra?
The contract and the people who signed it. The ticket should still record the hours so the argument has facts.
