Turn a pad, road base, or trench backfill into tonnes. Volume times placed density is the order you send to the pit, not the loose pile on the truck.
Formula
Volume = length × width × depth. Tonnes = volume × density (t/m³). Short tons = tonnes × 1.102. Use compacted density for placed base, loose density for a stockpile.
Worked example
A 60 m × 4 m lane, 150 mm of compacted road crush at 2.24 t/m³ is 36 m³ and about 81 tonnes. Order a little extra for waste and the last truck.

Do I use loose or compacted density?
Compacted for material you are placing to grade. Loose for a pile you are loading out. Mixing them under-orders or over-orders the pit.
How many trucks is that?
Divide tonnes by the legal payload, not the box volume, for dense crush. Then use the haul calculator for cycle time.
Can I use this for concrete?
It will give a mass from a volume and a density. Concrete is usually ordered in cubic metres or yards, not tonnes. Use the excavation tab for a slab volume.
How does this become a ticket?
DIRT sizes the tonnes. SubTrack records the trucks, loader, and labor against the project rate sheet on the LEM.
